RSB buffer seals

RSB seals are buffer seals with slide rings and feature a nitrile rubber (NBR) energiser and a PTFE slide ring.
The energiser is designed to hold the slide ring in the correct and constant sealing position against the rod-seal side of the housing. Conventional buffer seal designs can move axially within the groove and force fluid into the rod seal groove when exposed to sudden pressure peaks. This ultimately causes rod seal failure. However, the patented RSB profile design prevents any axial movement of the slide ring. These profiles therefore protect the rod seal in applications where conventional buffers are insufficient. In combination with grooves on the energiser outside diameter and notches on the front face of the slide ring, the projections also ensure that pressure can return to the system side.
RSB profiles are suitable for pressures up to 400 bar (5 800 psi) in medium- and heavy-duty applications and are available in inch sizes. For additional information, see the RSB profile data.
On request, for the most demanding large-equipment applications, SKF can manufacture these profiles with polyamide (PA) slide rings for additional extrusion and wear resistance.
