SKF Spectraseal
SKF Spectraseal, combination
SKF Spectraseal profiles are mainly used for extreme and demanding application requirements where conventional moulded elastomers or thermoplastics cannot be used because of material limitations. Application conditions include:
- Extreme temperatures: from cryogenic temperatures up to +290 °C (+550 °F)
- Low friction: friction-sensitive applications such as valves or pressure switches that need to operate with very low spring loads or pressure differentials
- Presence of aggressive chemicals: most plastic materials used, such as PTFE-based compounds, have virtually universal media compatibility
- High-pressure gas: most engineered plastic materials do not exhibit explosive decompression, a common problem with many elastomer-based materials
- Abrasive or poorly lubricated environments: media such as water, paints, resins and drilling mud can be highly abrasive to elastomer-based sealing materials
- High surface speeds and/or pressures: because of the low-friction characteristics of the materials, high surface speeds can be accommodated even without lubrication
