Split spherical roller bearings are mainly used for bearing positions that are difficult to access, for example on long shafts that need support at several positions or on crankshafts.

Their use is also beneficial where non-split bearings would require considerable time and effort for maintenance and especially replacement, resulting in long and costly, or perhaps even unacceptably long, machine downtime.
